Photo Phriday!

IMGPA8325

No surprise here, that I didn't actually go up to Yellowknife this week to add to my collection of Yellowknife photos. Which is something of a shame because not only is Yellowknife actually somewhat pleasant in Summer and Fall, what with the constant sun-an'-all-that, but also because then you could actually see what it looks like, rather then just outskirt shots of non-Yellowknife type material. Ah the tragedy of it all! Anyweather, here's a jet-plane I didn't leave on but did see and take a photo of recently. Consequently, I posted it on a blog I write in daily. Weird eh?

Yellowknife, NWT Week - Day Six

Cameron River Falls

So here I was with this amazing entry where I was writing about Northern musicians and how awesome they are and how you should probably hate me because I didn't include any pictures of Yellowknife and how you should write to Yellowknife's Mayor to complain and how I hate run on sentences when I realized I just didn't like this entry.

So I scrapped it.

Instead, here we are with another shot of Cameron River Falls to give you an idea of what they look like in full. They're quite a thing to experience live (much like that local band you love) and I recommend you do so when you get the chance!

Otherwise, with nothing else left needing to be said I think we'll end the entry for this day. Unless you do feel like writing the Mayor of Yellowknife about my blog, in which case you can send him a letter at this address:

Yellowknife Mayor's Office
Yellowknife City Hall
4807 - 52nd Street - PO Box 580
Yellowknife, NT X1A 2N4

"Re: A blog on the internet I am unhappy about."

Enjoy and we'll see you tomorrow!

Yellowknife, NWT Week - Day Five

This way to Exuberance

Speaking of things that aren't specifically of Yellowknife but are IN Yellowknife (at least at the time of this photo) I present to you my Brother!!

Yes, that's right, long Long LONG before you'll ever see me in here you get to see my brother first. This should give the world ample opportunity to stalk him first, mwaha!

But why include this photo then, aside from wonderful stalking opportunities? Because this inukshuk is by The Explorer Hotel, a hotel that, if not the most expensive, then certainly one of the easiest to recognize landmarks in Yellowknife.

So next time you drop by Yellowknife with lots of money to spare (and lets face it, if you've made the trip to Yellowknife, you probably do) drop by The Explorer and see if you can find this inukshuk.. perhaps your pose can trump this one?

Yellowknife, NWT Week - Day Four

Untitled

Now I don't imagine any of the photos of "Yellowknife, NWT Week" I have been posting are exactly what you've been expecting so far, right? You were probably expecting lots of photos of the Yellowknife skyline, possibly with the Northern Lights (aka Aurora Borealis) and heaps and heaps of snow. Those're some good stereotypical shots!

Instead I'm giving you macro shots of sparklers which is such a huge gyp, eh? Yeah life (and I guess "I" in this case) can be kinda unfair sometimes. In my defence though, the images were all taken up in Yellowknife (or surrounding area re: earlier posts) and it's the beauty of the images that will sell the place to you as much as anything else. After all, if I can capture the beauty of that sparkler with the sun setting in the background.. why the beauty of Yellowknife itself MUST pale in comparison! Think about it. Just not too hard because that logic is pretty flawed and I'd prefer you not see that but instead just enjoy the photo and take my word for it.

Agreed?

Agreed!

Yellowknife, NWT Week - Day Three

Making Waves

Here's a fun one taken out in Fred Henne park by Long Lake in good ol' YK. It is, again, not what you would picture for a regular activity up in the North but for all intents and purposes, Northerners like the water just as much as their Southern counterparts. Plus, with no ice on the water in summer (another myth dispelled!), it makes boating much easier and just as enjoyable!

Yellowknife, NWT Week - Day Two

Northern Summer Landscape

This one is kinda boring, at least insofar as it's a pretty straight-forward landscape shop of North of 60. It's more or less what everyone pictures when they think of Yellowknife.. well, at least when they're not thinking that it's constant winter and everyone live in igloos. So, I guess I'd like two dispel to myths here: despite what you've heard to the contrary, no we don't live in igloos in a constant winter climate and, no, this is not what Yellowknife looks like. Just some landscape very near Yellowknife! Aren't you glad we got that sorted out?

Yellowknife, NWT Week - Day One

Cameron River Falls

Yep, first day in and I'm already technically not showing you a shot of Yellowknife. This is a tiny section of Cameron River Falls, about 40 km outside of Yellowknife. Still, in terms of the Northwest Territories, this is practically Yellowknife so it's staying. Plus it's Yellowknife COMMA NWT week, so it could be either, or. Yay, loopholes!

Banff Week - Photo Phriday!

IMGPA7888

Welcome to the final day of the Banff Week! This is Castle Mountain and, while I'm not sure I would like to live in this castle, it is certainly pretty. Also, gotta be honest, if I was some non-benevolent dictator of the world I would definitely use some of my evil power to turn Castle Mountain into an actual castle where I could reign over you all with an iron fist. Fortunately, you shouldn't have to worry about that for at least five years. But someday, someday...

Banff Week - Day Six

IMGPA7911

Yes, it's a little touristy in that there's not much going on in this photo, but consarnit, I just had to capture me a good reflection of the mountains in a lake!

Banff Week - Day Five

IMGPA7833bw

IMGPA7833

Two photos for the price of one?? A wha????? Well, I had trouble deciding which I liked better so I decided why not post both and let the masses decide. Actually, that's not true as I know which one I like better. However, as I have long been aware, just because I like one photo better doesn't mean the other one is complete crap. So, y'know, bonus photo!

Banff Week - Day Four

IMGPA7776

While deciding how to crop this photo I ran into a minor problem as to how I should handle the patch of light in the top right corner. I eventually decided to keep it in as a reminder that to myself that all shots need not be perfect for me to still like them.

Banff Week - Day Three

IMGPA7435

In case you're curious, yes, you are staring at a rock. However, it is a macro (ie extreme close-up) of a rock and you're getting a slightly closer look at the moss on it! It's orange moss and this fact makes it exciting! OOoooooo. Well, okay, maybe not but it still looks pretty to me!

Banff Week - Day Two

IMGPA7416

Julia and I found this scenery a short walk away from our hotel in Banff. Which is good because I was lugging around a huge backpack filled with camera equipment and I would've felt pretty darned silly if I didn't use it at least once on our hike!

Banff Week - Day One

IMGPA8087

Yes, that's right! It's time to wander through Banff and it's surrounding areas! To explore the vast and wild unknown! To see, but not get eaten, by any bears! Okay, scratch that last one, 'cause Julia and I didn't see any bears whilst at Banff. Still here're some of the more scenic photos I took during our Honeymoon there!

Photo Phriday!

IMGPA8146

Sad sad day, peoples. I took no photos of any politicians this week, let alone Canadian ones. Would you settle for a preview of the types of photos I'll be posting next week? Well, I guess there's not much choice in the matter now, is there?

Canadian Politicians Week - Day Five

IMGPA4343

You may also notice I'm keeping the mockery of these politicians toned down and non-existent this week and you may ask why (well, at least think to yourself "why?"). Well, I figure, there're enough people out their ready to mock politicians that I don't really need to add my (written) voice to that chorus. So nope, no derisive or mocking commentary this week. Sorry!

Canadian Politicians Week - Day One

Regina Qu'appelle NDP Nominating Convention

If there's one thing we need more of, it's photos of politicians Canadian politicians for everyone to see. So this week I've decided to feature some I've taken photos of. With the exception of one, none will be named and only he'll be named in respect to his recent passing.

Just a flower I found along our walk that I felt compelled to take a photo of. Yeah, I'm crazy like that.

Photo Excursion Week (I) - Day Two

IMGPA7126

Alright, it isn't the most attractive photo that I've taken, I'll grant you that. I still like it though, plus it reminds me of that old Simpsons episode...

Faith: Will the winning essay be... 'Bubble On, O Melting Pot,' 'Lift High Your Lamp, Green Lady,' 'USA A-OK,' or 'Cesspool on the Potomac?'
Bart: Cesspool! Cesspool! Cesspool!

Photo Excursion Week (I) - Day One!

IMGPA7107

A few times a year (more if I can help it!) Corey Sawchyn and I go out on random photo-taking excursions throughout Saskatchewan. They're pure and simple fun as while we may occasionally have a general destination in mind we never have the specifics planned. Ergo, every so often and whenever these excursions happen, I'll be setting aside a week to post some of these photos. And guess what?! This is the first week of these new photos! That means, in a way, every day is Photo Phriday!!! Win!

Cowboy Bebop Action Figures Week - Photo Phriday!

IMGPA7324

...and on Photo Phriday we come to the last (but certainly not least) of the main characters of Cowboy Bebop, Ein. A fun little (literally) Welsh Corgi who has more lines then you would think and has many moments within the series. Aside from being nearly inseperable from Ed (in case you couldn't guess) he's also the other very light-hearted character in the series. He even gets high in an episode after accidentally eating the wrong mushrooms. Oops! Hilarity ensues.

Cowboy Bebop Action Figures Week - Day Six

IMGPA7297

If Spike is the darkest character of the Cowboy Bebop series (which is VERY much debatable.. in fact we should, why don't you go watch Cowboy Bebop so we can debate it!) then Ed is definitely the lightest and most carefree of the series. But, then, what character who only talks in rhymes and nonsense isn't lighthearted and fun?
